HEALING ARTS PROGRAM

Art allows young people the opportunity to recognize feelings, connect to their identity, build self-esteem, develop self-management and improve impulse control. It will also support the participants with identifying and labeling feelings, increase attention to detail and improve with learning about decision making. Creative self-expression is a core component of an individuals’ social and mental health, both because of the skills that are learned and the healing that takes place.

TPHHR Art Studio will be opened 3 days a week, offering an open studio setup that will include supplies for painting, drawing, sculpture, and many other forums. Dependent on the generous donations of supplies that will come from private members of the community and local businesses, the Art Studio will remain prepared for any creative endeavor a participant might wish to pursue.

The Healing Arts program will rely on volunteer facilitators from the community and local organizations. They will share their skills, talents, and expertise by leading skills-based workshops, therapeutic sessions, and experiential learning opportunities. There will be additional opportunities that will include painting, jewelry making, sculpture, creative writing, mixed media, music, and more. The program will also offer learning opportunities to include local museum trips, photography field trips, and the opportunity to participate in art shows and music performances.

The goal for implementation of the Healing Arts Program is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023. We will keep you updated via our website with highlights as we move closer to the date of the grand opening.
