Message from the Founder and President
As Founder and President of The Place of Hope, Healing, and Restoration (TPHHR), Co-founder Lady Debra Childs and I greet you and would like to welcome you to the TPHHR website. TPHHR is a subsidiary of Jesus Christ Global Mission (JCGM), Inc., which is a faith-based ministry located in the District of Columbia. Pastor Darnell and Lady Debra Childs life message is one of faith, love, and trust in God being who He is. JCGM is founded on biblical principles which is to give spiritual and economic hope, healing, encouragement, and restoration to families that are lost, broken, socio-economically challenged, disenfranchised, and at-risk for poverty, crime, incarceration, and high unemployment levels. JCGM serves in the spirit of excellence with integrity and compassion for our community, our nation, and our world. It has been an honor for my wife and me to lead this great organization as we market hope to the world. Actually, the origin of the vision for JCGM started when I was just a very young child. At the tender age of 11, God called my father into eternity and that left me experiencing severe emotional turbulence. The death of a parent can be a highly stressful life event for bereaved children and the results many times can cause psychological and emotional crippling. Growing from that time into manhood what I did not realize was that God takes all of our life experiences— whether young or old, positive or painful, intentional or accidental, caused by ourselves or by someone else, to shape us for His unique anointed calling that He has ordained for our lives.
The Word of the Lord in Habakkuk 2:2-3 instructs us to “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
In 2021, God strategically spoke that now is the appointed time to move forward with the housing component of JCGM. God placed a burden on Lady Debra Childs and me about the urgent need to assist the most vulnerable and underserved inner-city youth and young adults here in local Washington, D.C., metropolitan area who were homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless. This started the process of needing to develop the blueprint on how the program would best facilitate the program participants to become emotionally and spiritually well, also economically self-sufficient. The ministry began a search for the appropriate senior executive to oversee the housing component which included preparing the blueprint for how the program would operate and what the expected outcomes for success would look like based on the vision that God gave my wife and I. God moved and uniquely connected Elder Ronald Williams with Lady Debra Childs, JCGM Board of Directors and me to collectively develop the blueprint and strategic plan that will cause JCGM’s vision to become plain and a reality. This connection has been phenomenal and we know that it could have only been orchestrated by the power of Almighty God. Thus, TPHHR was born. The blueprint for TPHHR will incorporate transitional and supportive housing using Trauma-informed care combined with a robust job skills training and workforce development component. We believe that the most effective pathway to escape poverty is to address the barriers that keep one from obtaining financial independence. Lady Debra Childs and I envision TPHHR programs and services as a place where a person is not identified as a number. It will be a place where their humanity will not be crushed and stripped of its identity. Where they can obtain job skills training and employment and not be automatically disqualified due to a background check. Where discriminatory practices cease and the person who was justice-involved does not have to carry the Scarlet Letter F (felony) for the rest of their natural lives.
Lady Debra Childs and I feel honored that God has chosen us for this most needed ministry and we are committed to surrendering it all to God and giving our absolute best to please God and to serve the people as God would serve them.
