The Place of Hope, Healing and Restoration (TPHHR) Success in Occupational Achievement and Re-entry (S.O.A.R.) program is a Christ-centered ministry designed to assist young adults ages 18-35 with re-entry by providing the formerly incarcerated with long-term support and services as they work to reclaim their lives. “We market hope and hope changes lives”.
TPHHR SOAR is a proposed comprehensive re-entry program that will address the challenges of young adults who have been involved in the criminal justice system. We are confident that the TPHHR SOAR program will support youth returning from incarceration with making a successful transition back into the community.
We believe that everyone should have a safe, stable place to return after incarceration-not just access to shelter, but to a place to call home with the necessary support for ex-offenders reintegrating back into the community successfully. Housing is a fundamental human need that lays the foundation for success in every aspect of our lives. Having a place to call home defines our place in the world, our sense of belonging, and our relatedness to others. Those with past involvement in the justice system need housing in order to reconstruct their lives and many times they re-offend because they lack the basic necessities of life beginning with a safe and nurturing place to call home.
As a faith-based entity, we understand that real change occurs through Christ’s transformational love. Our goal is to help the ex-offenders with whom we work to rediscover their God-given human dignity and hope. Bringing both our faithful compassion and professional expertise, we will walk with them on this path of personal and interpersonal development that leads to transformation. We believe every individual has intrinsic value and the possibility to change.
TPHHR Re-entry Program will provide formerly incarcerated young adults with the support, stability, and opportunities they will need to transform their lives. Our model will offer more than just housing we will offer an intensive job skills training component and assistance with job placement. We will seek funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services, and local foundations to implement the TPHHR Success in Occupational Achievement and Re-entry (S.O.A.R.) program.
We are currently moving forward with pursuing the processes for contractual agreements with the District of Columbia Court and Offender Supervision Agency, Bureau of Prisons, Foundations, and other District of Columbia funding to support this program. We have met with the officials from the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services Office of Apprenticeship, Information, and Training and we are moving towards developing a collaborative agreement to advance our pre-construction training program.
TPHHR SOAR is a project that is close to the heart of our founder and TPHHR chief executive officer. This will be our second major project and we anticipate being able to provide services by the fourth quarter of 2022. Our board of directors and staff believe that this type of combined job skills training, housing, and social structured support is the key to changing individuals and communities. We will keep you posted on our website with highlights as we move closer to the date of the grand opening of our re-entry center.
