The vision of The Place of Hope, Healing, and Restoration (TPHHR) 5-year Strategic Plan includes working with the District of Columbia government and other partners to end long-term homelessness in the District of Columbia for youth and young adults. One of the key strategies to move towards that vision is to provide programs and services that would offer young people facing a housing crisis a safe place to form bonds with caring adults and access essential resources for their overall well-being. TPHHR’s primary goal is to get homeless youth and young adults into safe and permanent housing which will include transitional housing.
The TPHHR transitional housing will facilitate congregate-style housing. Each bedroom will facilitate two residents and there will be shared gender-designated restrooms. Also, residents will share common areas including the dining area, kitchen, and recreational room. The entire facility will be completely furnished and made ready for move-in based on availability. The facility will be staffed 24 hours a day and the staffing pattern will include the Program Director, Licensed Professional Counselor, Case Manager, and facility monitors.
TPHHR transitional housing program will deliver case management and housing services to youth and young adults who are living in unstable conditions or who are homeless. The goal of the program is to help young men and women, 16-24, become self-sufficient and transition into stable housing. The program will welcome all youth and young adults in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area that meet the program intake criteria. All services will be respectful of all cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. We will guide each resident as they assess their needs and develop a plan to reach goals for self-sufficiency. The residents will be actively involved in seeking educational, vocational programs, and employment opportunities. TPHHR transitional housing program is a place where youth and young adults can make transformational decisions that positively impact themselves under the guidance and support of dedicated and nurturing staff.
The timeline for program participation range from 12–18 months. While this statement makes a general reference to the average length of stay for residents, each length of stay will be determined by the individual circumstances. The goal for the grand opening of the TPHHR Transitional Housing Program is the second quarter of 2023. We will keep you updated via our website with highlights as we move closer to the date of the grand opening of the TPHHR Transitional Housing Program.
